Imagine going back in time and looking as you did 10 to 15 years ago. While time travel is not possible, cosmetic rejuvenation is. Over time the face develops tell-tale signs of aging. Whether the cause is heredity, animation, lifestyle, gravity, or frequent exposure to the sun, a facelift can address excess skin and wrinkles. Also known as a rhytidectomy, facelifts are very popular among individuals who aim to revitalize their beauty.
A facelift can improve unwanted changes to the face and neck, such as sagging in the midface and fat that has traveled down the face leaving a droopy appearance. A facelift can also help to alleviate jowls and loose skin as well as fat deposits under the jaw. The facelift is meant to improve upon your appearance and restore a younger looking you; it will not change your fundamental features on its own (i.e. nose shape, cheek volume). Often times, patients will choose to combine a facelift with a browlift or other plastic surgery procedure to enhance the results as well as botox and fillers. Natural appearing facelifts are undetectable. It is merely the younger version of you.
How is Facelift Surgery Perfomed?
Facelift surgery occurs under general anesthesia. Within 2 to 3 hours the patient should be on their way to recovering with their beautiful new look. There are three main options for facelift technique: traditional facelift, limited incision facelift or neck lift.Traditional facelifts involve an incision beginning within the hair at the temples. The incision continues around and unde the ear, ending in the lower hair bearing scalp. Through this method fat can be redistributed from the face, jowls and neck or removed through liposuction. Muscles may also be lifted and tightened. Excess skin is removed before dissolvable sutures or are used to close the incision. A second incision may also be made under the chin if more rejuvenation of the neck area is needed. The limited incision facelift uses shorter incisions starting at the temples and continuing around the ears but generally not into the scalp. The incision for a necklift starts in front of the ear lobe and continues under and around the ear, ending in the lower scalp. Sagging jowls and neck skin, as well as fat deposits under the skin are addressed with this technique.
