Get the youthful look you want with a Breast Lift.
As women many changes occur to our breasts over time, as the skin around the breast loses elasticity and the shape and firmness of the tissue begins to change. These changes can be a result of heredity, weight fluctuations, or pregnancy and breastfeeding. As the skin stretches, the nipples may begin to point downward and your breasts may appear flatter and elongated. These changes can cause women to look older than we feel and make us more self-conscious about our appearance.
A breast lift, medically known as Mastopexy, reshapes, raises and firms the tissue and skin of the breast to give your breasts a more youthful contour. Breast lifts can also reduce the size of an enlarged areola, and reposition the areola and nipple for a more natural look.
While a breast lift may give the appearance of additional fullness to the breasts, it will not actually change their size. However, you can undergo a breast augmentation at the same time as your lift procedure to provide the size and shape you are looking for and further enhance your results. Women with disproportionately large breasts can undergo breast reduction at the same time as their lift procedure to create a more balanced body profile.
Women who undergo a breast lift often choose to have their surgery after they are finished having children since pregnancy and breastfeeding can alter the results of the procedure. However, women who become pregnant after breast surgery often find the procedure does not impact their ability to breastfeed. Weight fluctuations can also alter the results of breast surgery, our patients are encouraged to achieve a healthy weight prior to surgery and maintain a healthy lifestyle afterward.
Breast Lift Approaches
There are two basic types of breast lifts performed by our staff at Aesthetic Specialty Centre:
Mini Breast Lift – This procedure involves smaller incisions and requires a shorter recovery period afterward. The incision is made around the areola, allowing the surgeon to lift and shape the underlying breast tissue to improve contour and firmness.
Full Breast Lift – This procedure involves incisions that run down the lower half of the breast and across the breast crease. The majority of scarring afterward will be hidden in the areola and along the natural folds of the skin underneath the breast. This procedure allows the surgeon to remove more skin and tissue, providing more significant results for women with significant sagging and drooping.
ICE Procedure – (Internal Capsule Elevation)-Marc Yune, MD is a triple board certified facial plastic – cosmetic and reconstructive surgeon, diplomat of the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery, and fellow of the American Society of Cosmetic Breast Surgery (ASCBS). He has invented the first suture less procedure to reposition the breast implant that is too low or to the side. This can happen with misplacement or time. Historically, this was treated with sutures tacking the tissues to the ribs and sternum. This was not only painful, it often resulted in unesthetic results. This procedure will revolutionize the repositioning of the low or descended implant which will impact millions of women in a simple less invasive and easily reproducible technique. He has presented this at the ASCBS meeting twice and shown results lasting beyond two years. It has been one of the most well received new procedures by his cosmetic surgery colleagues in decades. He is in the process of publishing this work to share with his colleagues worldwide.
Breast Lift Procedure
For patients undergoing a breast lift surgery general anesthesia is used. Through the incisions made, breast tissue will be removed and repositioned to a higher location on the chest. Excess skin will also be removed to give the breast a smoother look. If necessary, the nipple and areola will be repositioned higher on the breast and the size of the areola may also be reduced to create natural, proportionate results. Once the excess skin is removed, the remaining skin is tightened and the incisions are closed. Sutures are layered within the breast tissue to support the repositioning of the breasts. In addition to sutures, skin adhesive or surgical tape may be used to close the incision completely.
Breast Lift Recovery
After breast lift surgery, bandages are applied to the incisions to protect the area as it heals. Elastic bandages or a supportive bra will also be necessary to minimize swelling and lend extra support to the breasts during the recovery process. Topical and oral medication may be prescribed to reduce pain and aid in healing. Most patients are back to work and other regular activities within 1-2 weeks, although strenuous exercise will be restricted for a longer period of time so your breasts may heal fully.
A breast lift is an effective way to enhance your appearance by restoring a youthful contour and shape to your breasts and your body profile.
