Submental fat is fat that accumulates underneath the jawline, giving the impression of a double chin. According to the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), 67 percent of American adults are just as concerned about the formation of a double chin as they are about facial wrinkles. Until recently, the only effective way to “cure” a double chin was with surgical treatments that typically involved anesthesia and a recovery period. Now, an injectable treatment known as Kybella can effectively melt away fat from under the chin, producing a defined, more youthful facial profile.
Kybella is a prescription medication that contains a synthetic version of deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a substance naturally produced by the body to help with fat absorption. When it is injected directly into the area under the chin, it effectively destroys fat cells in the area. The remains of the treated fat cells are eliminated by the body and the transition between the neck and jawline becomes slimmer and more defined. The treatment can be tailored to the unique needs of each patient, ensuring superior results with every treatment.
Kybella can be use to treat men and women with any skin type and tone. The treatment is generally recommended for patients that have some pinchable fat underneath the chin that affects their appearance. Patients undergoing Kybella treatment must commit to the full series of treatment session in order to see the best possible results from their treatment.
Kybella Treatment
Kybella is performed at Aesthetic Specialty Centre on an outpatient basis. The treatment does not require any type of anesthesia, but patients can request a topical numbing cream to make treatment more comfortable if they like. The area under the chin is marked for the location of the incisions. Usually a number of incisions are made to ensure balanced results. The incisions take just a few minutes to complete.
Kybella Recovery
After a Kybella treatment, patients may return to their regular activities right away. Strenuous exercise is typically discouraged for a few days after the treatment to ensure full healing to the area. The treatment area may be sore and slightly swollen at first, but these side effects should subside within a few days. Results will begin to appear shortly after your first treatment and full results will become evident after three treatment sessions are performed approximately one month apart. Those results should be long-lasting, even permanent as the fat cells in the treatment area are completely destroyed.
Kybella is the first FDA-approved, non-surgical treatment for submental fat and it is now available at Aesthetic Specialty Centre. To learn more about this facial contouring treatment, contact our office at (770) 393-9000 for our Roswell location or (706) 467-6500 for our Greensboro location.
