Ultherapy® is a non-invasive treatment to tighten and lift the skin – It has become one of the most popular anti-aging technologies because it is safe, non-invasive, and has very minimal down time. Through the use of hyper-focused, ultrasound energy, Ultherapy® revitalizes your existing collagen and stimulates new collagen production, ultimately resulting in a lifting effect that makes the skin more youthful and slows the aging process. Ultherapy® is most commonly used in the eyebrow area, around the eyes, lower face, chin, neck, and décolleté, but it can also be used to tighten and lift skin in other areas, such as the abdomen, buttocks, and knees.
Ultherapy® is the first and only FDA-approved treatment to tighten and lift skin without surgery. Ultrasound energy technology is safe, time-tested, and allows providers to visualize beneath the skin’s surface to provide individualized treatments. This heat-based energy stimulates the body’s own collagen production to provide natural results. Ultherapy® is available at Aesthetic Specialty Centre with our extensively trained providers, offering our patients an immensely effective option in the non-surgical skin rejuvenation realm.
Unlike any other non-invasive treatment available, Ultherapy® allows providers to bypass the skin’s surface and work deeper in the dermal layers where structural rejuvenation can truly take place. Ultrasound energy penetrates more deeply and precisely than other forms of skin rejuvenation technology, including lasers, micro-needling, and radio-frequency energy. The precision of the treatment is further enhanced by the ability of a provider to use ultrasound imaging to target the specific layers of tissue that will have the greatest impact on the skin’s outward appearance. For this reason, our Ultherapy® providers have gone through extensive, advanced training in order to ensure the optimal treatment results for our patients.
“Ulthera is one of my favorite devices used to stimulate the body’s own collagen and elastin. Around age 24, our collagen and elastin production declines drastically. Ulthera uses ultrasound technology to deliver energy to the dermal-epidermal junction, which is the area where collagen and elastin is found in the skin. We deliver micro-injuries to this area, and the body uses new collagen and elastin to repair the injuries. We expect to see about 20% improvement (lifting and tightening) in the area. The treatment itself can feel a little spicy, so if you wish to medicate, we can write a prescription that you will fill and bring with you to your appointment. We begin seeing results around the three month mark, and full results ususally seen at six months. Most of my patients are having a treatment every 1-2 years for maintenance. After the treatment, you will be red and sometimes you will have little welt swelling marks that normally are gone in a few days.” – Melissa Carranza, RN
The Importance of Collagen
Collagen is a substance produced by the body that supports underlying skin structure and gives skin its’ smooth, supple feel. Over time, the body produces less collagen, which leads to overall skin laxity and the appearance of facial lines and creases. Restoring collagen during the middle to later years of life can reverse that process and restore the skin’s youthful texture and appearance. Ultherapy® stimulates this process of collagen stimulation beneath the skin’s surface, resulting in tightening and firming from the inside out. While the treatment is non-surgical and does not break the skin in any way, the dermal layers targeted by Ultherapy are the same that are addressed during facelift surgery.
Ultherapy® Preparation & Treatment
Prior to treatment, our expert providers will meet with you in-office or via telephone to ensure that you are comfortable going into your treatment. Most individuals are candidates for treatment, but we will ensure that you have the potential for optimal results by reviewing your medical history pre-treatment.
Ultherapy® is performed in an outpatient setting in our Ultherapy® suite at Aesthetic Specialty Centre. The treatment does not require any type of anesthesia, but many patients prefer comfort measures to be taken to increase tolerability. Pain management can be discussed with your provider during consultation, but patients find the treatment very tolerable with the options our office offers.
During treatment, a handheld applicator glides across the surface of the skin, delivering the ultrasound energy deep beneath the skin’s surface. The applicator obtains ultrasound images of the patient’s anatomy, ensuring the ultrasound energy is being delivered in the exact location that will produce the best possible results. The duration of treatment varies based on the size of the treatment area, but ranges from 30 minutes to two hours.
With Ultherapy®, there is typically very minimal downtime, other than mild redness and swelling post-treatment. Patients are able to return to their daily activities as soon as the treatment is over and have no restrictions other than sun avoidance. Skin in the treatment area may be slightly red, but this side effect will subside within a day or two after the treatment. Skin may also have small lines of swelling (welting), in the areas treated, which also typically decrease in a few hours to days after treatment. There is little or no discomfort after an Ultherapy treatment.
Patients will start to see results 2-3 months after their treatment, and will continue to notice ongoing skin tightening for up to 6 months. We recommend returning to the office for post-pictures at this 6 month point. Many clients are satisfied with the results of a single treatment, as there is 20% skin tightening with each treatment; however, most clients prefer to get a series of 2-3 treatments done as the results of each treatment build upon one another. Most individuals need a touch-up treatment yearly to maintain their positive results, as we are constantly going against the aging process, and therefore continuing to loose collagen.
Ultherapy® is the only FDA-cleared, non-surgical, non-invasive treatment that uses ultrasound and the body’s own natural healing process to lift and tighten loose skin on the face and neck. The most common side effects reported in clinical trials were redness, swelling, pain, and transient nerve effects. For full product and safety information, visit www.ultherapy.com/IFU.
