The Sciton BBL BroadBand Light is an innovative laser treatment technology that can be used to treat a wide variety of skin conditions by administering broadband light to the outer layer of the skin, promoting collagen regeneration and changing the structure of skin cells on a molecular level. Sciton BBL can be used to effectively reduce skin conditions associated with aging and sun damage, redness, and reduce acne scars.
How Does Sciton BBL Work?
Sciton BBL treatment is often referred to as a photofacial or photorejuvenation. The BBL’s advanced dual-lamp technology provides collagen regeneration to the upper layers of the skin. Furthermore, a Stanford University study has proven that BBL treatments change the structure of the genes associated with aging and alter cells at a molecular level to rejuvenate skin for a more vibrant and youthful appearance. Treatment can be performed on almost all parts of the body, but is most commonly used on the face, neck, chest, and hands. The number of recommended treatments will differ based on the condition being treated and the patient’s desired results. Best results are generally achieved with 3-6 treatments spaced 2-4 weeks apart. Sciton BBL can also be performed in conjunction with additional treatments such as HydraFacial, Rejuvapen, and other customized treatments to maximize your results.
During your consultation, we will help you determine the best treatment plan to achieve your desired results. While BBL is a tolerable treatment for most, topical numbing is also available upon request for those seeking a painless experience.

Patient Instructions for Sciton BBL
- Patients must avoid intense sun exposure (including tanning beds) and all forms of self-tanning at least 10 days before and after treatment. No tan or sun can be present on the skin on the day of treatment.
- Patients who have had a chemical peel or any facial or laser treatment within one week of a BBL treatment must speak to their provider regarding this and may be rescheduled.
- Patient cannot have used prescription topical benzoyl peroxide medications or Retinoids (such as Retin-A or Renova) or any other exfoliating agents on the area to be treated for at least 7 days prior to BBL treatment or be peeling from these topicals on the day of treatment. These creams must be avoided for at least 7 days after your BBL treatment. Also, any other prescription topical creams that cause photosensitivity must be avoided for 7 days prior to BBL treatment.
- Patient must avoid all medications and supplements that cause photosensitivity. Please check with your prescribing doctor if you are currently taking any medications or using any topical creams that you are unsure of. This includes all antibiotics in the Tetracycline family.
- Patient cannot have taken Accutane within at least 6 months of treatment or have had any chemotherapy or radiation treatments within one year.
- Patient cannot be pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or nursing.
- It is recommended that patients with certain medical conditions such as any auto-immune disease, Diabetes, or Hirsutism consult with their physician before beginning laser treatments. These conditions may prevent you from having treatment or achieving the best result possible. A letter of approval from your treatment physician may be required prior to BBL treatment.
- Patients with a history of keloid scarring should be aware there is an increased risk of this occurrence with any laser treatment.
- Avoiding extended sun exposure for 1-2 weeks after your BBL treatment is recommended.
- Avoiding hot water, heat and exercise for 24 hours after your BBL treatment is recommended.
- Patients with a history of cold sores are recommended to proactively treat with Valtrex. Speak to your BBL provider more about this prior to arriving for your BBL treatment.
- Sunscreen MUST be worn every day after treatment, even in the winter when it is not sunny. Your provider will discuss this more with you.
What Can I Expect After Sciton BBL?
Sciton BBL requires minimal downtime as it is non-invasive. After the treatment, the skin may temporarily be red and any dark spots may temporarily appear darker. Most redness fades in just a few hours, and any remaining pinkness will fade over the next 7-10 days. Patients with darker pigmentation may notice mild flaking or peeling 1-2 weeks after treatment. Your provider will recommend a topical cream to enhance your recovery and results. Makeup can be applied immediately after treatment to cover any remaining redness. Most patients resume normal daily activities immediately after treatment. Over the next few weeks, the skin will become smoother and wrinkles and other fine lines will be less noticeable.
